Joe O’Brien - Artistic Director

Joe spent 10 years working and studying theatre and after a four year break he has returned to help create F.R.Y.T, His interest in drama began as a member of a street theatre  company in Tralee. He then attended a two year community theatre arts course run  by the K.E.S. He then moved on to Dublin where he was a student on the four year BA in Drama &Theatre Studies

course in Trinity  College Dublin, where he received an honours degree. His studies focused mainly on the use of theatre as a tool, devising and directing. Joe has worked with young people through drama in many different settings from young offenders institutions, secondary schools, N.T.D.I., stage schools as well as many community groups. He believes ‘theatre used in the right context gives people a voice to raise question and a vehicle for expressing how they feel about the  world around them.

Mike O Halloran

Bsc N is a founder member of FRYT and is involved in all aspects of drama acting, directing set design and set construction.He has worked with Barry Cassin Muirisa McCurtain and Joe O Brien.He has been involved in radio drama in the award winning "From Heart Ache to Hope" and is currently working on a new radio play, he also has in the pipe line a new stage play.


He lectures  on Drama as a tool in Mental Health, He also works as a broadcaster with Radio  Kerry and guests with 4FM. His interest in drama takes him to the National Theatre in London every few weeks to see their latest plays and to learn new ideas. His favourite playhouse is The Donmar Warehouse in Covent Garden, his favorite play so far is Waves. He has lots of experience of working with young  people both as a Community Mental Health Nurse and as a coach to county hurling teams.

Mike believes that drama can be a very rewarding lifelong  pasttime and a beautiful career in which talented theatre makers can bring  pleasure to the world

Bryan Carr

Bryan began his music studies with Audrey O’Carroll and later with Dr. Veronica Dunne at the Leinster Opera Studio in Dublin where he performed several roles and engagements with the National Chamber Choir, Opera Ireland, summer work as Butler with Bunratty Castle Banquets along with solo television performances on The Late Late Show, Nationwide and Theatre Nights.

Bryan continued his vocal study with renowned teachers in Los Angeles, Maastricht and at the RSAMD Glasgow. In 1998 he took up the position as lead vocalist with Platin Scala Germany. In 2000 Bryan premiered the part of ‘Daigh’ in the Irish Dance Musical  ‘To Dance on the Moon’ and after over 500 performances throughout 14 countries. He took over as Production Manager and has toured Taiwan with his own production ‘Legend of the Knight’.

Now a resident of Tralee, Bryan has his own Event Management Company & Stage School’s under ‘ShannonStar Entertainment’. He is delighted to be involved with FRYT to further assist the  development of young people in Kerry.

Fran O’Connor

Fran O’Connor joined Siamsa Tire in April 2008 as part of the Box Office team.She has a keen interest in drama and the  arts.Fran has worked with young people  running art & craft workshops and outdoor nature activities.

Fran is the first point of contact at Siamsa Tire for the members of the Free Range Youth Theatre.Her role, as well as  providing introductory information to new members, includes on-going liaison  with the youth theatre members as they progress within the group.

Catriona Fallon

Catriona Fallon is the General Manager at Siamsa Tíre and has been working in arts  administration since 1991. She was inspired to help set up Free Range Youth  Theatre following her time at the Riverbank Arts Centre where Peter Hussey ran the very successful Kildare Youth Theatre. Catríona is also responsible for  marketing at Siamsa Tíre and uses these skills to assist in the promotion and marketing of FRYT events.
